Living in Durango: What It Actually Feels Like

I am not going to tell you about square footage or market trends. You can find that anywhere.

I want to tell you what a Tuesday afternoon looks like here.

You get off work at 5. You are on a trail by 5:15. The kind of trail where you can hear the river but not the highway. By 6:30 you are back in town, grabbing a burger at a place where the bartender knows your name and your dog is welcome on the patio. The sun is still up. It does not set until almost 9 in the summer.

That is Tuesday. That is just a normal Tuesday.

Durango is a small town that refuses to feel small. There is always something going on. A concert in the park. A farmers market on Saturday. A food truck festival that shows up and somehow has better food than most cities three times the size. The Durango and Silverton narrow gauge railroad runs right through town and tourists love it, but honestly, so do the locals.

Winters are real here. It snows. Purgatory is 25 minutes up the road. People ski on weekdays because they can. Kids grow up on skis and bikes and river tubes. There is something about raising a family in a place like this that is hard to put into words until you are living it.

The mountains are not a backdrop here. They are just part of the day.

If you are thinking about what life could look like in Southwest Colorado, I am happy to talk. No pitch. Just a conversation from someone who chose to be here.
